About This Brewery

What the Kids Say

Hops & Grain is okay but there's not much for us to do. No playground or space to run around. It's more of a grown-up place, but the dog treats are cool!

Hops & Grain Brewing in East Austin is a beloved local brewery known as much for its sustainability practices as its excellent beer. Founded in 2011, this brewery has become a staple of the Austin craft beer scene, attracting visitors with its innovative brews and eco-conscious approach.

For families, Hops & Grain offers a welcoming but limited setup. There's no playground, but the spacious outdoor patio with communal picnic tables gives kids some room to hang out while parents enjoy a pint. The atmosphere is laid-back and friendly—kids are welcome, though this isn't a destination brewery for families looking for dedicated kid entertainment.

The brewery is dog-friendly, which is fitting given their famous Brew Biscuits—dog treats made from spent brewing grain. Food trucks regularly park outside, so you'll usually find something to eat.

Beer-wise, Hops & Grain excels. Their Zoe Pale Lager is a Texas classic, and the Greenhouse IPA series showcases their experimental side with constantly rotating hop combinations. The taproom offers views into the brewing area, and tours are available for those interested in learning about their sustainable practices.

Bottom line: Hops & Grain is a great brewery with excellent beer and a welcoming vibe, but it's better suited for a quick family stop than an extended outing. If your kids are patient and you're in East Austin, it's worth the visit for the beer alone.
