Blanco
Real Ale is okay, but there's not a lot to do for kids. They have some games, but no playground. It's more of a grown-up place.
Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco is one of Texas' most respected craft breweries, with roots going back to 1996. While it's a must-visit for any beer enthusiast exploring the Hill Country, we'll be honest with families: this one's more for the grown-ups than the kids.
The brewery has a spacious outdoor patio with picnic tables and shade, plus some lawn games like cornhole that older kids might enjoy. Dogs are welcome, and the vibe is relaxed and friendly. But there's no dedicated playground, and the space isn't really designed with little ones in mind. If you've got teenagers or older kids who are patient, it can work—but toddlers and young children will likely get restless.
That said, Real Ale is worth visiting for the beer alone. Their Fireman's #4 Blonde Ale is a Texas classic, and their Devil's Backbone Belgian Tripel has won numerous awards. The brewery offers tours that take you through their brewing process and history—educational and interesting if your kids are old enough to appreciate it.
Food trucks sometimes visit, but food options aren't always available, so plan accordingly. The brewery itself is located in the charming small town of Blanco, which is worth exploring while you're in the area.
Bottom line: Real Ale Brewing is a fantastic brewery for adults and beer lovers, but it's not our top pick for a family outing with young kids. Consider it for a date night or an outing with older children who can appreciate the craft beer experience.
